Out of the 150 supernovae in the sample, twelve
were at redshifts over 1.5. Ten of those were classified as
thermonuclear, or Type-Ia, supernovae. This is the largest sample of
high-redshift Type-Ia supernovae discovered to date.
Every triplet of frames zooms in on one event,
showing the galaxy before the explosion, with the supernova in
progress, and in a digital "difference image" that isolates the
light from the supernova.
The header of each triplet lists the name of
the supernova and its redshift.
