פרופסור חגי נצר - מידע כללי

פרופסור נצר מתמחה בחקר קווזרים, גלקסיות פעילות, גלקסיות יוצרות-כוכבים וחורים שחורים ענקים. את מחקריו הוא מבצע בעזרת טלסקופים קרקעיים בארץ ובעולם וטלסקופי חלל, בין השאר טלסקופ החלל ע"ש הבל וטלסקופי קרינת IR וקרינת X .

במשך השנים כהן נצר כפרופסור אורח וכעמית מחקר במספר רב של מוסדות אקדמיים כולל אוניברסיטאות טקסס, קליפורניה ואוהיו, אוניברסיטת הרוורד, קולומביה, אוניברסיטת לונדון, מכון מקס פלנק, מכון RIKEN בטוקיו, מצפה גריניץ ובסיס נאס"א שבמרילנד. הוא פרסם יותר מ- 200 מאמרים בג'ורנלים מקצועיים ומספר ספרים. האחרון שבהם (2013) הוא ספר לימוד לתלמידי מאסטר ודוקטורט  בהוצאת קמברידג': The Physics and Evolution of Active Galactic Nuclei. ספרו היקום: יסודות האסטרופיזיקה (עם מידב וברוש) הוא הספר המקיף ביותר בעברית בתחום האסטרונומיה (מהדורה חמישית בהוצאת האוניברסיטה הפתוחה תחת השם: "צפונות היקום - אשנב לאסטרונומיה" 2013). מסע אל התבונה: החיפוש אחר חיים ביקום (עם עמי בן-בסט) הוא ספר מדע פופולרי שיצא לאור בשנת 1999.

פרופסור נצר הוא עמית החברה האסטרונומית המלכותית של בריטניה (2003), חתן פרס הומבולדט של ממשלת גרמניה (2005) וחתן פרס וייצמן (2005).

Prof. Hagai Netzer - General Information

Professor Hagai Netzer was born in Israel, in 1945, completed his B.Sc. in Physics, at Tel Aviv University, in 1972, and his Ph.D. in Astronomy, at Sussex University, in 1975. He has been a faculty member of the School of Physics and Astronomy, at Tel Aviv University, since 1977, a member of the university senate since 1987, and the incumbent of the Jack Adler Chair of Extragalactic Astronomy  (1994-2011). Over the years he chaired the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Tel Aviv University, and was the director of the Wise Observatory , the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Institute of Astronomy, and the International Institute for Experimental Astrophysics. Since 2009 he is Professor Emeritus at Tel Aviv University.

Professor Netzer's research includes quasars and Active Galactic Nuclei, star-forming galaxies and massive black holes. It involves observations with ground-based and space-borne telescopes including the Hubble Space Telescope and advanced X-ray and IR space observatories.

Professor Netzer held visiting professorships and research positions at many foreign institutions including the University of Texas, the University of California, the Ohio State University, the University of London, Harvard University, Columbia University, the Royal Greenwich Observatory, Max-Planck Institute in Garching, RIKEN in Tokyo and the Nasa/Goddard Space Flight Center. He is an Associate of the Royal Astronomical Society since 2003. He won the L.Meitner-A. V. Humboldt Research Award in Germany (2005) and the Weizmann Prize in Israel (2005).

Professor Netzer has published more than 200 papers in scientific journals. He is also the author of several books including: The Physics and Evolution of Active Galactic Nuclei (an advanced professional textbook, CUP 2013). The Universe (in Hebrew, with Meidav and Brosch, fifth edition 2013) is an advanced text giving a comprehensive description of modern astronomy at the first year university level. Active Galactic Nuclei (1990: with Blandford and Woltjer) is a graduate level text book. Journey to Intelligence (1999, in Hebrew, with Ami Ben-Basat) is a popular science book describing the quest for life in the universe.
