Gegenschein

Also known as the Counterglow. The Gegenschein is very faint light seen on the ecliptic, 180o from the Sun. It is part of the zodiacal light and it is a reflection of light by dust particles in the ecliptic plane of the solar system. It is about 15o to 20o across, and it's fainter by a factor of 15 relative to the zodiacal light. It is best seen when it is far from the Milky Way (Galactic plane) in September and October.
