The moon, as observed on 26/Nov/2002 with the Wise 1m telescope using the
new MAALA camera (also referred to as the "Reimager").
The image illustrates the camera's wide field of view (34x68 arcmin^2)
which easily accomodates the moon's disk.
The optics of MAALA consist of 14 large
custom-made lenses that first collimate the telescope's f/7 beam into a
parallel beam, and then focus it in an f/3.056 beam onto a detector.
The detector is a back-illuminated SITe 4096x2048 pixel CCD. This image was
obtained by
Oded Sharon
,
Ezra Mashal, and
Dan Maoz, as part of the
testing and comissioning of the new camera.
