Date: Nov. 6, 2022 Speaker: Prof. Rennan Barkana School of Physics, Tel Aviv University Title: 21-cm cosmology at a crossroads Abstract: Radio waves from high redshift are expected to show a rich signal due to the 21-cm line of intergalactic hydrogen. After years of theoretical predictions, a large international effort is now producing the first tentative results. The coming confrontation of theory and observations will reveal to us the mysterious era of cosmic dawn, including the properties of the first stars and galaxies and possibly more exotic discoveries. There are also plans to probe the pre-stellar "dark ages" with telescopes on the moon. We will give a summary and update of the theoretical developments and observational prospects.
